House Block QAL – Block #2: Three Terraces

Our lovely second make in my House Block QAL is here! Say hello to the Three Terraces block. 👋🏠

Inspo for this one came from those sweet little inner city streets that are endlessly lined with rows of tall houses standing neatly together. Although they’ve all been built the same, each one is slightly different to their neighbour either through the exterior colours or how well they’ve been loved throughout the years.

Another option for this block that I think would look super cute – change the grass sections for yellow sand and turn the terraces into fun little beach huts! Or even change the grass sections into blue water and the paths into yellow sand trails… 🏖️

There’s so much room for creativity and fun with this block and I can’t wait to see how you all interpret the design and make it yours!

Don’t forget to share your finished block with me on Instagram…

House Block QAL – Block #1: The Original Homestead

Welcome friends to a muchly anticipated and very over-due Quilt Along!

I can’t quite believe the last Quilt-Along (the Mini Block QAL) I hosted was seven years ago – that was 2018! What!?!?

Well today, I’m so happy to be able to share with you the first block in this new House Block QAL!

The Original Homestead is a nod to the classic house block seen in both vintage and modern quilts and is relatively simple to piece together.

Take your time choosing the right colours and prints you want to use for your block and take advantage of the colouring-in page to explore and decide what works best!

Follow the tutorial below to learn how to piece this block together.

Don’t forget to share your finished blocks with everyone using the hashtag – #AmandasHouseBlockQAL as well as tagging me on Instagram @3and3quarters!

Sneaky hint for the next block in the QAL…

Block #2 is a Trio of fun! 🏠🏠🏠

Happy Sewing, friends!

PS. Just incase you missed it, here’s the Introduction video I shared chatting all about this new QAL! xx

HST Sampler Quilt | Block #6: Mill Wheel

PATTERN SHEET: HST Sampler Quilt – BLOCK6

First of all, a big thank you to everyone for your patience in waiting for this block to come out. The past few days have been a bit rough and I didn’t quite find the time to get edits and things done. But not to worry, block six is finally here and it’s the one that I warned you about that could be a bit tricky for some to piece. (Don’t worry, I was one of those ‘some’!) So my advice when piecing this block together is to have the pattern sheet close by so that you can keep referring to it as a guide if you get a bit confused with HST placements etc.

So this variation of the Mill Wheel Block is pieced together completely out of HST – 16 to be exact – and are laid out in a way that it should, if you squint your eyes, have a pinwheel type design flowing through it. I think you’ll only really see this if you use two contrasting fabrics/colours in your HSTs. (This theory has been untested.) If you don’t want to use contrasting colours then that’s cool, you’ll just end up with a really pretty block that has a lovely X type design to it! 🙂

For all of the measurement and cutting details, along with the fabrics* I’ve used to piece this block together and a diagram of the block layout, click on the pattern sheet linked at the top of this post. If you would like to use the same 12.5″ set square as me, you can find it here:June Tailor Get-Squared 12.5″ Ruler.

As I mention in the video, my fingers are crossed that I’ll be able to get next weeks blocks out to you on time. A big dentist appointment waits for me on Monday to remove the one wisdom tooth in my mouth that chose not to sprout out in the proper way. (Think horizontal and causing havoc with the molar in front of it! Ouch!) So I’m trying to do as much prep over the weekend as I can, but we’ll see what happens over the next few days!

Keep on sharing your blocks with me! Big apologies if I don’t see them straight away. Time zones and missing notifications can sometimes be to blame! You’re all doing such a fantastic job with your blocks and your talents and skills just blow me away!!

I hope you all are having a fabulous weekend!!

Happy Sewing, Friends!!

*A big thanks to Australian wholesale supplier and fabric distributer Dayview Textiles for supplying me with such beautiful fabrics! If you want to see all of the fabrics I’ll be using in this Quilt Along, check out this post where I share them all with you!

TUTORIAL: Finn The Human Pillow

For weeks now, I’ve been promising this little tutorial to you all.

I’ve been teasing, procrastinating and stressing out over it for ages until I finally said, ‘Sod it! Just get it done already!!’

And here it is!

I’ve been hella nervous to publish this pattern & tutorial for so many reasons.

Here are just a few…

#1: This is the first ‘pattern’ I’ve ever really made and created. I’m sure somewhere there will be a crucial element I’ve missed or half explained that I will need to address sometime in the future. I’m super nervous that the pattern pieces are incorrect and won’t all match-up. And I’m desperately praying that the pattern link downloads and opens easily for everyone who clicks it! (The original plan was to have a PDF pattern but that wasn’t working, so I’ve uploaded it as Word docx. instead! Fingers crossed!)

#2: OMG, it’s Adventure Time! This cartoon series is huge at the moment and I’ve been so conscious to get the design pretty much perfect to the original design of Finn so that it doesn’t just look like another one of those ridiculous try-hard crafting nightmares!

Finn For Blog 3

#3: I suppose, in all honesty, I’m worried about the feedback I’ll get from this project. Will people hate it? Will they not understand the pattern? Are there elements of the design that just don’t work?

Finn For Blog 2

Hmm… I don’t know… I think I’m letting my mind run away with this issue far too much than I really should. I need to remember: Any feedback is good feedback (as along it’s constructive and helpful of course!).

If you’re new to the crafting/sewing game and would like to make this, I recommend watching the video first, that way you’ll grasp a better understanding of each step and not get too befuddled with what needs to be done next.

Best of luck to you all!!

Happy Sewing Friends!
